  Are JWs the worst restaurant customers?

  (a little background info before i ask my question...).

  my sister-in-law (non-jw), who manages a popular chain restaurant near a kingdom hall, just found out that my wife and i have recently faded, so she decided to get something off her chest the other day... you guessed it: she wanted us to know that jws are the worst customers ever!

  she then told us some really embarrassing stories about how jws would request a table for 15 to 20 people (after a sunday meeting) and then (when the bill came) some of the jws would start deliberating amongst themselves on whether or not the waiter was diligent or not (to justify the low tip he was getting anyway).

  One thing rings true about this story, if nothing else:

  - they DO tend to arrive in groups of 20 or 30, but divided into half a dozen or more cliques.

  - cliques, who have Sweet Fanny Adams to do with each other the whole evening!

  While in no way trying to deny that there was such a thing as "higher education" in the First Century A.D., a point needs clarifying about the use of the Greek language by early Christians.

  The New Testament was written in Common Greek (also known as"Koine" Greek) - NOT Classical Greek:

  - Classical Greek was the language of higher learning, with a structure specifically designed to develop the mind of its users (Imagine if the GB had been around in those times, they would have been terrified of the use of Classical Greek - can't having people's minds being expanded!)

  - Common Greek was the language used by the soldiers of Alexander the Great. Following the conquests of his armies in the Fourth Century BC, Common Greek became the International Language of the countries around the Eastern Mediterranean. Its use was retained for centuries afterwards: Firstly, long after the death of Alexander the Great, the entire Middle East west of the Euphrates River remained under the control of Greek-speaking rulers. Then later, when the Roman Empire was divided into its eastern and western parts, Greek was the language of the Eastern (or Byzantine) Empire.

  That is why the New Testament was written in Common Greek - and why earlier, the Old Testament had been translated into Common Greek (the "Septuagint" version of the scriptures).

  feel free to add ones that have been missed.. men:.

  have to shave everyday or they look like miami vice wannabe's.. have to register for the draft.. have to keep up that macho image for their buds.. have to pretend to love beer.. to them, size is an important issue.

  I have already had enough of trying to defend the indefensible to last a lifetime -why would a person want to pace themselves in that position again?

  Also, I refuse to any longer be bound by a lot of man-made rules and regulations.

  Were you 'alive in '75' and how was that year for you?

  i was a junior borgite in 1975. i remeber looking at the calendar at work in october and thinking: 'armageddon isn't here yet.....and it doesn't feel like it will be here anytime soon either!'.

  i was surprised that jehovah hadn't obeyed the superior command to bring the big 'a' as instructed to him by fred franz.

  how dare god disobey the jw leader!!!!!.

  I was 20 years old, began the year working as a truck driver - and finished the year as a "regular pioneer", as the JWs like to call those who peddle their literature on a full time basis.

  We all got to hear a tape recording of FW Franz's February 10 speech about the significance of 1975, within days of it being given in L.A.

  - including his escape clause i.e. the time lag between Adam's creation and that of Eve's.

  This did not in any way dampen the excitement being felt by the Witnesses about the date. In the years leading up to 1975, I never heard anybody express reservations about the significance of 1975 - to have done so would have got you branded as "immature" - that ubiquitous JW swearword!.

  They also had that bible verse about Armeggedon happening "at a time least expected" covered:

  - that statement, we were assured, only applied to "those in the world." Those of us in "The Truth" were privy to special information that the"Worldlies" did not have.

  I particularly remember one elder being convinced that the set of tires on his car would last "until Armeggedon" (which he imagined was about six months off). I sure hope he did replace those tires at some point, or they would be looking very bald by now!

  Whatever the apologists would have people believe now, the WTS did make a big thing about 1975, and the rank and file Witnesses took it up with great gusto.

  PS: According to Raymond Franz, it would seem that the Governing Body also fell for this story. In Crisis of Conscience, he admitted to feelings of excitement about 1975 and the end of the system. As for his uncle (not brother, as some have stated) i.e. Frederick Franz, it would not at all surprize me if the deluded bloody fool actually believed his own propaganda (or came to believe it, as often happens with persons whose minds are not quite right).

  i have witness friends telling me, that this is the end right now!

  that this globel issue of the nations of egypt, libya and others ... is the sign they looked for.

  now with what is happening in the usa, wisconsin to be exact, more trouble is rising and this is it.

  Twenty years ago, all most to the day, I can recall the public speaker at our KH one Sunday assuring us that:

  "The Governing Body has been telling us for years that Armeggedon is just around the corner. Now, we have actually rounded that corner, and are staring down the home straight!"

  This brilliant conclusion was reached because:

  (i) The First Gulf War had broken out (The Middle East once more!)

  (ii) The United Nations forces (INCLUDING the Soviet Union!) were poised to attack Iraq.

  His "home straight" has proven to be a bloody long one!.

  Also, so what if there is now yet another outbreak of trouble in the Middle East? What is new about that?

  Nearly every war in history has been started by MEN:

  This observation warrants some further discussion! (And is not entirely irrelevant to the subject of this thread)

  - While the statement itself is true, what is being concluded from that fact may not actually be quite as it is being portrayed.

  Would human history have been any more peaceful if women had been in charge?

  Look at some of the examples of what happened when women were in charge:

  - as in Catherine the Great of Russia, or Margaret Thatcher of the United Kingdom. Both showed theselves up as being just as aggressive as any man, as well as being more ruthless than most men would ever be. (The Falklands War, for example).

  During the First South African War (1881), it was Afrikaaner women who played a large part in fostering hostilities, by using their powers of manipulation - whether subtly or otherwise - to get their men to go off and fight. (In more than a few cases, actually taking the family rifle down off the wall, thrusting it into the husband / father / or son's hands, and calling him a coward if he did not then mount his horse and ride off to join the Commando).

  An attempt in the latter 19th Century to colonise the Jacksons Bay area in New Zealand's South Island fell apart because the immigrants quickly set to fueding among themselves - a feud which was started by, and sustained by, THE WOMEN in the community.

  I myself have witnessed many brawls, in which it was the women who started and / or sustained the fight (even though it was men who were doing the actual fighting).

  I grew up with two sisters, as did several of my close friends . Speaking from my own experience, plus what I also observed, there are just as many troublemakers amongst women as there are amongst men. Furthermore, all the female troublemakers I knew (and, I can tell you, that group comprises a sizeable number!) went about it in a more devious manner, making them the more destructive of the two.

  That most wars in history have been started by men is solely because of which gender held the power - nothing else.

  If roles had been reversed, and it was women who held power instead of men, then the history of the human race would have been no more peaceful than it has been.

  Earthquake in N.Z.

  i guess the witnesses are rejoicing over the death and destruction of the latest earthquake in n.z.as proof of the imminent coming of armageddon,and their deliverance into the "new world system of things" i can just see it now ,the kh`s in nz will be filled to overflowing in the next month,......then in six months later it will be back to the status quo.. p.s when jesus said their would be" earthquakes in one place after another" couldn`t he have identified these areas for the faithfull ?

  so at least beleivers would have been spared the trauma ?

  of course non beleivers would have suffered the consequences,but why should beleivers suffer also ?.

  My nephew just had a lucky escape in that earthquake:

  - the building where he works collapsed, as did the vehicle hoist that he was working under when the earthquake struck .

  Somehow, he and the other two mechanics managed to escape without harm.

  Getting upset with children who cannot sit through the meetings.

  ok this thought came to me the other day.

  i was thinking of the co who told me that he liked to see parents spank their children for not sitting still during the meetings.. i remember how hard it was to sit through two hours when i was four or five years old.

  it was like forever.. i was thinking of comparing the hours that we have been alive to how long two hours is for a child.

  There is only one word to describe what JW children are expected to do from babyhood onward - and that is INHUMAN!

  No wonder two out of every three JW children gives the religion away:

  - it is a miracle that they manage to hang on to even one third of those "raised in the truth."

  The truth of the matter is that this lot is not family friendly. While no admirer of the LDS, either, they at least get that part right

  i.e. the Mormons are a family friendly religion, and their retention rate reflects this.
